YELLOW DOG FLYFISHING + PHOTO WORKSHOPS 2017

FLY FISHING PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS 2017
FISH . PHOTO . TRAVEL
Belize, Idaho, Cuba

Join Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures for a hands-on, adventure-filled outdoor and fishing photography workshop in 2017. We have a great line-up of instructors this year, making it a great opportunity to travel with us to Belize, Idaho or Cuba! This immersive workshop will be led by our highly accomplished team of adventure angling photographers. The school includes daily classes, in-the-field instruction, field trips, and all lodging and meals!

The idea for the Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures on-the-water photo workshop was to create a hands on workshop that is taught by working professionals who specialize in adventure angling. We constructed a learning experience built around real time scenarios. Let’s face it: the light is rarely perfect when you finally catch the fish of a lifetime or finally take that once in a lifetime trip. Everyone wants to come home with those special moments. With this in mind, we created a curriculum that provides you with the necessary tools to create great images! The detailed instructional lesson plan is directly applied from the classroom into the field. Each participant has the help of an instructor with almost every shot. It’s a great educational experience for all levels.

Who Should Attend:
Everyone! Whether you just purchased your first camera and are wondering what all those buttons are for or you’re a seasoned amateur to intermediate photographer wanting to make the most of your fishing and travel photography, this workshop will advance your skill level and improve your photos in the field. With three working professional photographers instructing, we’re able (and happy) to teach and accommodate photographers of any skill level. The diversity of instruction and a curriculum designed specifically for outdoor, travel and fishing photography, this workshop will help you to “up your game” and make the most of your future fishing trips.

YELLOW DOG PHOTO SCHOOL | RECAP

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP || FISH, PHOTO & TRAVEL
El Pescador, Belize

This past October we launched the Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures Photo Workshop series. This program focuses on fishing, travel and photography. For our first stop we chose Belize as it’s an easy location to gets to, has amazing scenery with a variety of opportunities to photograph. We teamed up with the folks at El Pescador Lodge, who took great care of our large group. We held daily presentations with cold beers and great tasting local finger food. A jam-packed itinerary followed a very detailed course curriculum that incorporated fun daily field assignments. It was exciting to see the progression of the participants each day as we toured the towns, snorkeled in the reserve and fished the famed Savannah flats. The weather was dramatic at times and only a few of us somehow dodged the down poor. All in all it was a great experience and a huge success. This is the first of many and I am looking forward to the upcoming 2017 lineup.

A few new Hatch Outdoors Ads have been surfacing this spring season, its always great to see the fruits of our labor seeing the light of day.

These images always take a team effort, these two here were helped created with global guide Gabriel Gygax in Xcalak Mexico in the first photo and Tom Melvin of Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures in Caye Caulker Belize in the second image. Big thanks to all the anglers, manufacture, lodges, staff, guides, logistics agents, etc, who helped with the process, these images wouldn’t be created without your help and continued support.

HATCH OUTDOORS TFFJ AD 2015

HATCH OUTDOORS SUMMER AD
Seen in The FlyFish Journal 2015

It’s not all blue skies and calm seas when on location. You can’t predict the weather, or the fish, ever. When you’re in the business of getting the shot regardless, well, this was one of those days when you make it happen. Flat light, blowing wind, choppy water are no match for great attitudes, good anglers and impressive guides.

This image here was shot at Turneffe Flats. Guide “Dubs” poling in nuking wind getting Mille Paini into position to make the cast. The stars aligned and we were able to nail the shots wee needed. Ironically, many images from this day made it to commercial Ad or editorial prints.  A great team effort!

UNDERWATER JELLIES

UNDERWATER JELLIES
Caribbean, Belize

These are just a few of the many species of jellyfish found in Belize. Yes, there are a few species that can pack a deadly punch and give this specie a bad name. But for the majority of them, they are gentle creatures and you can easily out swim one. I know the second image (black and white photo) is referred to as a “Moon Jelly” but I am not certain of the other.

BAMBOO CHICKEN: GREEN IGUANA

BAMBOO CHICKEN
Green Iguana, Belize River

These lizards are unique and ancient. They have a third eye, have a crazy thing called a Jacobs Organ and can hold their breath underwater for over 20 minutes. These dinosaurs have an evolved a set of sophisticated sensory mechanisms constantly analyzing and evaluating it surroundings for survival. The “Itzamna” was also incorporated into Maya religious beliefs and represented a symbol of life for the rivers and the tropical rainforests for many generations.

One of the most serious threats to this species has been brought about by the destruction of their natural habitat; along with harvest and pollution their numbers are in decline.
