It’s always a special day to open the mailbox and see your image on the cover of a manufacturing catalog. This image is from a great trip to Alaska with a good fishing buddy, Tom Melvin. The moment I saw the light and the tail I knew I had something to work with. Pink Salmon are such amazing fish, I can’t wait to get back to photograph them again.

It’s always a big surprise when you land a cover. I couldn’t be happier to see this photo of Doug McKnight on the cover of the Hatch Outdoors Angler’s Annual catalog. The photo was created on a great trip to the Bahamas. While surprised by the cover, I am deeply humbled by the words that accompany my photo essay written by my friend, John Torok — co-owner of Hatch. I am honored. It’s been a wonderful relationship with the Hatch crew over the years, and I certainly wouldn’t be doing what I am doing without their support. Thank you!

The Fly Fisherman Magazine 2017 Gear Guide has recently hit the newsstands! I’m happy to see that an image from our Alaskan shoot last year made the cover. This image of angler Camille Egdorf was taken in while on location shooting for Yellow Dog Fly Fishing Adventures. We were searching for the elusive Sea Run Rainbow Trout with Rick Matney when she hooked into this gem. It was a great trip with great friends. I hope to one day see to the temperate rainforest of the great white north again, it really is the last of the salmon (and steelhead) forests.

Summer 2016 issue | Henry’s Fork River, Idaho

The new 2016 summer issue of the Flyfishing & Tying Journal magazine just hit the newsstands. I am very happy to see that Brad and I landed the cover.

This image is of Brad Miller when he was guiding at TroutHunter Lodge guide in Idaho. Brad and a few others took advantage of a rare day off so the crew hitched up the boats headed to the lower Henry’s Fork river. It was a great day of fishing with stoneflies and streamers for brown trout. Over the years Brad has helped me create many great images: Ozzie the Osprey, a rare mountain orchid bloom, been a stunt caster for a few of my commercial shoots and of course there is the fishing. Big thanks for all the help over the years my friend.

The winter time is one of my favorite times to fish. The fishing is good and many of my guide friends have some time off. During the busy summers I rarely get a chance to fish with my friends as they are working around the clock trying to get the most of out of a limited guide season. So winter is often a time when I am able to go fishing with my friends. I linked up with my friend Pat Gaffney, we had a great day of catching up and catching fish and we managed to make a few photos too. Here Pat is getting ready to release a healthy Henry’s Fork rainbow back into the winter river.
