Earlier this year Patagonia Ambassador Eric Paulson and I were commissioned to take the new Patagonia boots from Danner into the field. I always like shooting with Eric, it’s hard work, fast-paced, everyone knows their role and its never ever a dull moment. From knocking out teeth to torrential downpours, we seem to never time the weather right but we always return with new fishing stories of adventure and a few new images.
This past fall I headed over to my buddy Eric Paulson’s house to capture some images of him bucking hay bales. Every year Eric has to make hay while the sun shines to get ready for winter so I figured it was a great time to photograph some real authentic moments. Between guiding and skiing, the swing months are packed with chores. Eric is no stranger to hard work, it’s just another day in paradise for him. Little did I know his hard work was going to pay off in more ways than one. It’s great to see this moment made it into the Fall 2018 Patagonia Workwear catalog.
At one time in my career, I was in front of the lens, pictured on a few covers, a couple of commercial ads, and in editorial publications. That seems so long ago. These days, I am mostly behind the lens, documenting anglers and their lifestyles and journeys. I am usually pretty good at avoiding the other end of the camera, but every now and again I get photographed. So you might say I was very surprised to see the new Patagonia Fish Ad for the newTough Puffwas of a photo of me!
This image was shot byPatagonia Ambassador Eric Paulson while we were on assignment for a shoot. I didn’t know he was quietly sniping photos while I was trying to navigate what seemed to be miles of log jams. It was already a fun trip so this image is icing on the cake. Nice shooting, Eric!
