New commercial work for 2021, Hatch Iconic Reel. It’s always a pleasure working with our longtime friends at Hatch Outdoors. We headed out the door this past winter with blue skies and turquoise water on our minds. Little did we know we would be working during the tail end and reminiscence of a CAT4 hurricane. Like all good adventures, nothing comes easy. A big thanks to the hard-working folks at Belize permit Club for making this happen.

A few of our images made it into the recent Spring issue of Field & Stream Magazine. These photographs are from a great day on the river chasing smallmouth bass with Mike Schultz and his solid crew at Schultz Outfitters in Michigan. If you’ve never tossed a fly for smallmouth, we highly recommend it!

It’s always a big surprise when you land a cover. I couldn’t be happier to see this photo of Doug McKnight on the cover of the Hatch Outdoors Angler’s Annual catalog. The photo was created on a great trip to the Bahamas. While surprised by the cover, I am deeply humbled by the words that accompany my photo essay written by my friend, John Torok — co-owner of Hatch. I am honored. It’s been a wonderful relationship with the Hatch crew over the years, and I certainly wouldn’t be doing what I am doing without their support. Thank you!

Tis the season for snow and the joys of winter. We are happy to have our images accompanying this years Hatch Holiday Gift guide, a few website headers and winter ads. It seemed like only yesterday Zach Wheeler and I were fishing right out of our frozen snowy doorstep on the Henry’s Fork River in Yellowstone Caldera. I really enjoy the quiet and solitude winter fishing can bring and I also really enjoy those monster winter hatches when the stars align.
A new Hatch Outdoors Ad hits print in winter issue of the The FlyFish Journal. This image was created on the pristine flats of Cuba with Tom Melvin and Avalon fishing guide Keinlert… and of course a Hatch 7+ Plus. We got really lucky, and had great fishing for the shoot. And yes, real actual fish were actually caught for the creation of this shoot.
HATCH OUTDOORS SUMMER AD Seen in The FlyFish Journal 2015
It’s not all blue skies and calm seas when on location. You can’t predict the weather, or the fish, ever. When you’re in the business of getting the shot regardless, well, this was one of those days when you make it happen. Flat light, blowing wind, choppy water are no match for great attitudes, good anglers and impressive guides.
This image here was shot at Turneffe Flats. Guide “Dubs” poling in nuking wind getting Mille Paini into position to make the cast. The stars aligned and we were able to nail the shots wee needed. Ironically, many images from this day made it to commercial Ad or editorial prints. A great team effort!

The crew over at Hatch Outdoors has revamped their website. It’s full of new photos, new products and their top-notch standard of sleek machining and bomber-engineering that Hatch is known for. Packing for Belize, it’s almost time to go. I am looking forward to the salt and the sand … and cudas! Barracuda are one of my favorite fish to catch: acrobatic, aggressive, fast, strong and love to eat. See ya soon!
