FINDING FONTINALIS | FLY FISHING FILM TOUR CUT F3T Film Trout 2016
Cinema Digital just released a cut of a new feature film titled Finding Fontinals. The film cut debuts on the 2016 F3T: Fly Fishing Film Tour. Check out the teaser and see the special cut of the film at a F3T screening nearest you.
“An old gaucho’s tale inspired the search for a new world-record brook trout; but the water, landscape and the culture surrounding it became the impetus to conserve and protect it all. This F3T cut of Finding Fontinalis, a new feature film from Travis Lowe (coming fall 2016) takes you to the heart of Patagonia and one of the last remaining, world class brook trout fisheries. Featuring Bart Bonime, Bryan Gregson, Agustin Fox and Yvon Chouinard, Finding Fontinalis exposes you to both jaw-dropping landscapes and hook-jawed trout.”
PHOTO BEHIND THE COLOR | NEW PATAGONIA SUNSHADE PATTERN Patagonia mens sunshade 2016
My friend Kim Brannock, a passionate designer working with Patagonia, sent me a note letting me know some of the new gear she has been was working was just released. She mentioned there is one piece I’d be interested in seeing, particularly the color. I was thrilled to see my image helped create a new pattern color for the Patagonia Men’s Sunshade shirts. When she was designing she piece she was browsing through the Patagonia photo archives selecting images for creative ideas. She picked the photo from a big pile of photo selects, and only learned that it was mine later. Random luck! I’m very happy to see my work being used in such a unique and creative way. The bonus part, it’s a piece of gear I practically live in when traveling in the field, and a piece of gear I was using when I took the photo. I couldn’t be more pleased.
A big thank you to the creative unsung hardworking designers who are creating and engineering gear that performs in tough conditions. When I am out on assignments I need to be focused on the shoot and not worried if my gear is going to hold up. So the next time you’re comfortable out when it’s cold or dry when its wet, don’t forget to thank the design team, its a big task!
Moments after this photo was captured, he raced off to gather a few stray cattle. He isn’t big enough yet to get his feet in the stirrups, he is usually riding his own horse, with no saddle. There are only but a few young men in this small town that will carry on the traditions, this is the future of the Las Pampas gaucho. I’ve been lucky enough to photograph him for a few years now. Each year his skills are progressing and his tasks becoming more important. I hope to see them again this year. This image was shot assignment for an upcoming film Finding Fontinalis.
PATAGONIA WORKBOOK FALL 2016 | PUBLISHED Amazon Jungle, Bolivia
I am very happy to see an image make it to print in the 2016 Patagonia Fall Workbook. Last year I had the opportunity to visit the jungle of Bolivia and photograph and catch golden dorado, it was a life long dream. Although the fishing was amazing, the people and the culture really was inspiring. It was a humbling experience fishing with them.
LAS PAMPAS LODGE CATALOG 2016 Las Pampas, Argentina
I’m happy to see the new 2016 Las pampas Lodge catalog in print. Every year I look forward to my yearly visit. The fishing is great, but it’s the overall adventure that makes it so appealing to me. It will always be a favorite!
It’s a humbling experience to see your work in print. The studying, the tinkering, the leaning, the support and all the mistakes finally come together for one complex click of a button. I couldn’t be more pleased seeing my imagery of my friends Millie and Oggy in retail stores. The shop pictured here is Emerald Water Anglers in Washington. If you’re ever in the Seattle area be sure to swing in to this amazing one of a kind shop! Thanks for sending in the great pic Catie!
SUPPER UNDER THE BRIDGE: TROUT BUMS Corcovado River, Argentina
Sharing supper with the old guard, the trout bums, who live under the road bridge on the Corcovado River in Patagonia, Argentina. It was a rare glimpse into the lives of these anglers who’ve been gathering here as friends to chase fins for over 30 years. Here, Pedro serves up a dish of beef stew as trucks drive on the road overhead.
PATAGONIA | GIRL’S CLOTHING WEBSITE HEADER Millie and Ella tying flies in the magic bus. Henry’s Fork, Idaho
I’m thrilled to see this image once again show up. This image was captured in Island Park on the banks of the Henry’s Fork River inside a really cool bus named “Lucinda” owned by Branden Born. Ambassador Mille Paini and daughter Ella were tying flies. At times Ella would be very witty and full of energy, as usual. The present and future of the Yellowstone caldera is in good hands with these two ladies.
HEADED TO THE SOUTHERN HEMI Las Pampas, Chubut, Argentina
I had time to drop bags, wash clothes, download cards, charge batteries and repack. I’m headed south to Argentina and over the boarder to Chile. I’m looking forward to linking up with with my old friends and the gauchos. After every return trip I always wish I had more time to experience and explore this region. I feel fortunate that I am able to see just a small glimpse of it all.
This venture has many moving parts including the rivers, lakes, camp, photography and cinematography. Imagery and motion captured here will be used for various outlets including the lodge and for an upcoming work in progress. A conservation film with Travis Lowe titled Finding Fontinalis, showing in 2016. Stay tuned.
