ON THE WATER FLY FISHING PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP | BELIZE 2018

YELLOW DOG ON-THE-WATER PHOTO WORKSHOP
Ambergris Caye, Belize

Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures is pleased to announce the continuation and expansion of their popular fly fishing photography schools and workshops. These “On-the-Water Workshops” are designed for photographers of all skill levels and are a great chance for experienced shooters and aspiring photographers alike to join Yellow Dog instructors for hands-on, adventure-filled outdoor and fishing photography workshops in the field. In November of 2018, our team of adventure angling photographers will once again lead an in-depth and immersive workshop on Ambergris Caye, Belize – one of our favorite destinations for photography. As with our previous schools, this year’s workshop will include daily classes, personalized instruction, field trips, guided fishing, all lodging and meals.

The Yellow Dog On-the-Water Photography Workshops were created to offer a hands-on learning experience built around real-time fishing, travel and outdoor scenarios. These workshops are taught by working professionals who specialize in adventure angling and off-the-grid travel. Whether a participant is an advanced shooter or someone who is new to photography, this is a curriculum that provides the opportunity for shooters to “up their game” by delivering the tips and tools necessary to create great images. Each participant has the help of an instructor with almost every shot, creating a solid educational experience for all levels.

Who Should Attend:
Everyone! Whether you just purchased your first camera and are wondering what all those buttons are for or you’re a seasoned amateur to the intermediate photographer wanting to make the most of your fishing and travel photography, this workshop will advance your skill level and improve your photos in the field. With three working professional photographers instructing, we’re able (and happy) to teach and accommodate photographers of any skill level. The diversity of instruction and a curriculum designed specifically for outdoor, travel and fishing photography, this workshop will help you to “up your game” and make the most of your future fishing trips.

HATCH CATALOG 2018 | COVER & ESSAY

HATCH OUTDOORS | 2018 ANGLERS ANNUAL CATALOG
Cover + Article Photo Essay + Imagery

It’s always a big surprise when you land a cover. I couldn’t be more happy to see this photo of Doug McKnight on the cover of the Hatch Outdoors Angler’s Annual catalog. The photo was created on a great trip in the Bahamas. While surprised by the cover, I am deeply humbled by words that accompany my photo essay written by my friend, John Torok — co-owner of Hatch. I am honored. It’s been a wonderful relationship with the Hatch crew over the years, and I certainly wouldn’t be doing what I am doing without their support. Thank you!

GRAY’S SPORTING JOURNAL: LEAD PHOTO // QUALITY IN PARADISE

ZEN AND THE ART OF BLUE TRAVALLIES
Article by: Miles Nolte

It’s great to see this image of a blue trevally as the lead off image for Miles Nolte’s article “Quality in Paradise”. The blue trevally is quickly becoming a favorite of mine to both fish for and to photograph. Robust and feisty, full of colors and patterns, they never disappoint the angler or the camera.

This issue is packed with great articles and impressive essays, it’s not one to be missed.

GRAY’S SPORTING JOURNAL: PHOTO ESSAY // RUSSIAN SPRING

PHOTO ESSAY | KAMCHATKA PENINSULA
57° N 160° E – West of Russia Mainland

The Senanda River is mousing heaven if I’ve ever seen one. It’s not the fishing that draws me back here, it’s the overall experience. The landscape, the camp fires, the people, the food, the wildlife and then, of course, there is the fish. It was incredible to see a forest that is still relatively untouched and truly wild. Big thanks to Tom, Alejandro and James for letting me tag along with my camera daily.

PHOTO ESSAY | SAINT BRANDONS ATOLL
16.5833° S, 59.6167° E – East of Mauritius

I’m thrilled to see the voyage to St. Brandon’s Atoll in Mauritius made it to print. Each time I think about this incredible adventure with the crew at Flycastaway I still can’t believe it. What an incredible area, I had no idea places like this actually existed in reality. A journey I will always remember and a place I will always want to return to.

This essay is from my trip last year while on assignment for Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures with the amazing crew at Fly Castaway. It has been said the Cargados Carajos Shoals is very remote, way off-the-grid and is extremely difficult to get there. I couldn’t agree more.

Big thanks to William for letting me tag along with him on the flats with my camera and to my bunkmate Murray for putting up with all my gear, I’m glad we both had the same taste in room temperate!

YELLOW DOG PHOTO SCHOOL | RECAP

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP || FISH, PHOTO & TRAVEL
El Pescador, Belize

This past October we launched the Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures Photo Workshop series. This program focuses on fishing, travel and photography. For our first stop we chose Belize as it’s an easy location to gets to, has amazing scenery with a variety of opportunities to photograph. We teamed up with the folks at El Pescador Lodge, who took great care of our large group. We held daily presentations with cold beers and great tasting local finger food. A jam-packed itinerary followed a very detailed course curriculum that incorporated fun daily field assignments. It was exciting to see the progression of the participants each day as we toured the towns, snorkeled in the reserve and fished the famed Savannah flats. The weather was dramatic at times and only a few of us somehow dodged the down poor. All in all it was a great experience and a huge success. This is the first of many and I am looking forward to the upcoming 2017 lineup.
